Failed to Initialize Service

Hello, I was working on installing closed captions (the one from ratwithacompiler) and I have used this before for a while and it worked really well. I had to reinstall because I had to wipe my pc. When I was dragging the folder, I wasn't paying attention to what I was doing and I believe I dragged it into my obs-plugins folder by accident rather than the obs-studio folder because I'm just not seeing it in the obs-studio folder (I don't know what's supposed to/normally is in there). So I tried deleting the file with today's date on it... Then I tried to launch OBS and that's when I got the "Failed to Initialize Service" error. I googled and the *only* result I'm seeing is to uninstall and reinstall. Is that my only option? I haven't backed up my scenes recently... so I'm going to lose that, right? Any thoughts or suggestions would help, thank you!

The OBS config is stored independently from the app executables, so you can always uninstall and reinstall OBS without losing your config.

hi bros wanted to chime in as i had this issue with my obs and found this forum as a result

i was able to boot obs without reinstalling by navigating to my obs config; Win + R, type %appdata%, pres Enter, then open the obs-studio folder

within that folder i clicked the folder titled 'updates', then double clicked 'updater' - this updated my obs to the current version and i was then able to launch obs without issue
